FAQ

What time should I plant herbs in my garden?

Spring should be when the soil temperature reaches 55 degrees F. The best results are achieved when they are in full sunshine. Basil indoors can be grown in pots with potting mixture. They should be kept out of direct sunlight until they grow leaves. Once plants start growing, move them into bright indirect light. After about three weeks, transplant them to individual containers and continue to water them regularly.

When is the best time to plant flowers?

Planting flowers in spring is easier when the temperature is lower and the soil remains moist. If you live in a cold area, plant flowers only after the first frost. The ideal temperature indoors for plants is around 60°F.

Does my backyard have enough space for a garden?

You might be wondering if you have enough space to grow a vegetable garden if you don't have one. The answer to that question is yes. A vegetable garden doesn't take up much space at all. You just need to plan. For example, you can build raised beds just 6 inches high. Or you can use containers to build raised beds. You will still get plenty of produce regardless of how you do it.

When is the best month to plant a vegetable garden in my area?

From April to June is the best season for vegetables. This is when soil is at its warmest and plants are growing the fastest. If you live in colder climates, you might wait until July or Aug.

How big is a vegetable gardening space?

A good rule is that 1 square foot of soil needs 1/2 pound. You will need 100 pounds of seed if your area is 10 feet by 10 foot (3 meters by 3 metres).

What vegetables are good to grow together and what are the best?

Because they are both fond of similar soil conditions and temperatures, it is easy to grow peppers and tomatoes together. They can complement each other because tomatoes require heat to mature, and peppers require lower temperatures for their optimal flavor. Start seeds indoors approximately six weeks prior to planting. After the weather has warmed up, you can transplant the pepper plants and tomatoes outside.

How To

Organic fertilizers for garden use

Organic fertilizers can be made from natural substances, such as compost, manure and seaweed extract. Non-synthetic materials are used in the production of organic fertilizers. Synthetic fertilizers are chemicals that are used in industrial processes. They are widely used in agriculture because they provide nutrients to plants quickly and efficiently without requiring laborious preparation methods. However, synthetic fertilizers present risks to both the environment- and human health. They also require large amounts energy and water to make. Due to runoff, synthetic fertilizers can pollute both groundwater as well as surface waters. This is a problem for wildlife and humans alike.

There are many kinds of organic fertilizers.

* Manure is created when livestock eat foods containing nitrogen (a nutrient for plants). It contains bacteria and enzymes that break down the waste into simple compounds that plants can absorb easily.

* Compost: A mixture of animal manure, grass clippings (decomposing leaves), vegetable scraps (vegetable scraps) and grass clippings (grass clippings). It is high in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium as well as calcium, magnesium, sulfur. It's porous so it is able to retain moisture well, and slowly releases nutrients.

* Fish Emulsion: A liquid product derived primarily from fish oil. It is similar to soap in its ability to dissolve oils and fats. It contains phosphorous, nitrogen, and trace elements.

* Seaweed Oil - A concentrated mixture of minerals taken from kelp, red and brown algae, as well as green algae. It's a great source of vitamins A and C as well as iodine and iron.

* Guano, excrement taken from amphibians, bats, reptiles and seabirds. It contains carbon, nitrogen, phosphorous as well as potassium, sodium and magnesium.

* Blood Meal: The remains of animal carcasses. It is rich in protein which is useful for feeding birds and other animals. It also contains trace mineral, phosphorus as well as potassium, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

For organic fertilizer mix equal amounts of manure, compost and/or fishemulsion. Mix thoroughly. If you don’t own all three ingredients, one can be substituted for the other. You can mix one part of the fish emulsion with two portions of compost if you don't have enough.

Spread the fertilizer evenly on the soil with a shovel, or tiller. About a quarter of a cup of the fertilizer is needed per square foot. To see new growth, you will need to apply more fertilizer every 2 weeks.
